Byron Kelley - President

Byron is an 8 year resident of Morgan Hill, having moved from San Jose with his wife, LaCrista, and 2 children.  Byron has a Master’s degree in Business Management from Purdue University and a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the University of California, Irvine.  He brings his 25 years of financial reporting and accounting experience to the board, with previous positions at Hewlett Packard and Merrill Gardens/Village Green Senior Living.  Outside of work, Byron is active in the local Rotary Club and in the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce as owner of his accounting firm, Kelley Bookkeeping and Accounting Consultants.  Byron was a member of the Leadership of Morgan Hill Class of 2015.

Sandra McNeal - Leadership Morgan Hill  

Sandra McNeal - Vice President

Sandra McNeal is a resident of Morgan Hill for 31 years, having moved from San Jose to enjoy reverse commute while working in Human Resources at IBM. She was a graduate of Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2015.

Sandra’s professional experience is in Human Resources and Executive Coaching.  Her role before retiring from Abbott Laboratories, a pharmaceutical company, was Director Human Resources.  She is the founder and President of Ivey League Consulting.  Her expertise is around leadership and career developing coaching as well as working with small to medium size companies around employment law.    

Sandra has worked with a number of companies, leaders and professionals, …moving them forward and watching them reap the benefits of her coaching.  For example, receiving recognition in their current position or helping them move towards a positive direction in their professional life dreams.  

Sandra recharges by traveling the world, attending sporting events, and listening to jazz. 

For community and volunteer efforts local and outside of Morgan Hill:

Community Service: Currently serves on the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce Education Committee. Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce 2018 Volunteer of the Year.  Served 2 years on the City of Morgan Hill Personnel Commission, with the second year as vice chairperson.  

California Diversity Council:  Served as Project Director in publishing “The Most Influential Women in California Magazine” in 2009.  A member from 2005-2013.

Black Recruiters Network:Served as the board of directors in providing leadership development and network events in Silicon Valley.  Has partnered with BRN since it’s conception.

Emmanuel Baptist Church:  Served as Human Resources Director in building an infrastructure that included employee handbook, policy and procedures, benefits, annual reviews, recruitment and personnel records.

Loren Burks  

Loren Burks - Secretary

Loren Burks is a 4th generation resident of Morgan Hill and a local Realtor for over 20 years. She spent 15 years in the late 1970’s and into the 1990’s in high-tech working as a technical editor/writer at IBM, then moving on to Sales and Marketing for several large corporations such as Amdahl, Sun Microsystems and Fairchild. With her corporate background, Loren was able to integrate her experience into her real estate career and focus on corporate relocation. “I have had the great pleasure of relocating some of the top corporate executives in the the South County area.” Loren loves to talk about Morgan Hill’s history and growth from a strictly agricultural and farming town to a family-oriented suburb.

Loren is a graduate of Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2012. Soon after graduation she pursued a position with the City of Morgan Hill’s Library, Culture and Arts Commission as a Commissioner from 2012 - 2014. Loren also Chairs the Leadership Morgan Hill Excellence Award Honoree Dinner. She is also a cancer survivor and founded PinkCATs, a cancer survivor group.

Tim Hansen  

Tim Hansen - Treasurer                                           

Tim grew up in Chicago and transplanted to the Bay Area after college.  He has been a Morgan Hill resident since 2000 and loves its uniqueness and vitality.  Tim’s enthusiasm for Morgan Hill was incited by his experience in the Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2017.  He is also a volunteer with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, which helps local residents in need.

Professionally, Tim is a program management executive and has spent most of his career in wireless telecom with Aviat Networks, joining it as a startup.  He has led multiple product development teams in rolling out microwave radio platforms and had led several merger integrations.  Tim is passionate about helping project teams achieve their goal through resilient communication and by overcoming tough obstacles.

Tim is married and is the father of three daughters.  He graduated with a BSEE from the University of Illinois and an MBA from UCLA Anderson.  In his free time, he’s trying to learn the banjo.  He is also an avid sports fan.

Mike Cox  

Mike Cox - Director

Mike Cox moved to Morgan Hill in 1997 from Saratoga with his wife Mary.  He has two children, Steven and Laura and two grandchildren.  Mike is the founder and CEO of Anaerobe Systems, a microbiology manufacturing and research company.  He has a degree in microbiology from the University of Houston.  Mike began his career as a medical microbiologist.  While working at Stanford University Medical Center he invented and patented an improved anaerobic chamber and technology to prepare anaerobic culture media in a completely oxygen free environment.  He has also developed technology to convert biomass into hydrogen and organic fertilizers and recently received a patent on that technology.  Mike is a member of The American Society of Microbiology and the Anaerobe Society of the Americas.  Mike spend much of his time teaching anaerobic microbiology and has present over 600 session in more than 20 countries around the world.

Mike serves as a guest lecturer at Santa Clara University and San Jose State University.  He currently is mentoring a graduate student at the Moss Landing Marine Laboratory where he donated the equipment to establish an anaerobic research laboratory.  This lab is evaluating using invasive aquatic plants to produce hydrogen and fertilizers while removing agriculture fertilizers from the waterways.

Mike was a member of Leadership Morgan Hill class of 2005 and recipient of the Leadership Excellence Award in 2013.

Angelica Diaz Board Member

Angelica Diaz - Director

A native of the Bay Area and lifelong resident of Morgan Hill, Angelica Diaz joined the Board of Directors with Leadership Morgan Hill in 2017.  Angelica is a mother of two, the secondary caregiver for her younger sibling, a health care professional, and community volunteer.

Angelica brings to the board a unique combination of education and experience in public health, primary care, and health policy. With more than 10 years’ health care related experience, Angelica has dedicated most of her career towards planning and implementing data-driven programs and systems geared toward improving health outcomes of vulnerable communities.  As Director of Care System Redesign with Community Health Partnership (CHP) for eight years, she designed, implemented and led multiple safety net initiatives that supported CHP’s member community health centers and clinics improve outcomes and operational efficiencies. In 2017, she joined the Santa Clara County Public Health Departments Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Branch to plan and facilitate county initiatives.

Angelica has demonstrated leadership professionally and in her community.  She has earned numerous professional certifications including Purdue University’s Lean Six Sigma Program, UCLA Anderson’s School of Management Johnson & Johnson Health Executive Program, and UCSF’s Center for Excellence in Primacy Care Panel Management and Health Coaching.  Angelica is a graduate of Leadership Morgan Hill class of 2015 and a leadership participant of the Blue Shield of California Foundation Clinic Leadership Institute class of 2018.  She is a current Board Trustee with the Learning and Loving Education Center. 

Angelica holds a master’s degree in Public Health and a bachelor degree in Health Science with a concentration in Community Health from San Jose State University. 

Chris Foster  

Chris Foster - Director

Chris is a lifelong resident of Morgan Hill and the father of three.  Growing up here, he is the product of the  Morgan Hill Unified School District, attending San Martin Elementary, Burnett Elementary, Martin Murphy Middle School and graduated from Live Oak High School.  Chris went on to attend San Jose State University, which he graduated from with a B.S. Degree in Art. 

Over the years, Chris has worked as a recruiter, Human Resource Manager, and Network Engineer. He currently divides his professional life between being the Director of Operations for the Law Firm of Rusconi, Foster & Thomas, and his own businesses as an IT consultant and professional photographer.

Chris is active in the community as a member of the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill, Leadership Morgan Hill (Class of 2013), and South Valley Community Theater. If he is not working on a project, then he is spending time with his kids, brewing beer, or chasing clouds to photograph...unless those clouds are dumping snow; in which case, he is on the slopes skiing. 

 Leadership Morgan Hill Director - Chris Harringtion

Chris moved to Morgan Hill with his daughter in 2009 from the mid-peninsula.  He graduated from Humboldt State with a B.S. degree in Forest Resource Management.  He spent the next 37 years working with the CalFire and Santa Clara County Fire Departments.  While at County Fire, he was a member of the Hazardous Materials and Special Operations teams and was trained in Chemical and Biological weapons along with terrorist bombing.  He also owned and operated a wedding and photography business for 24 years. 

 Chris now spends much of his free time leading hikes throughout the bay area including climbing Mt. Whitney.  He was a member of the Leadership of Morgan Hill Class 2016 and volunteers at the Tuesday night bingo in the community center. 

Tim Hendrick - Director

Tim’s marketing and communications expertise as an Associate Professor at San Jose State University, as a respected industry executive, and as a past marketing/communications consultant, encompasses Advertising, Marketing/Product Strategy, Public Relations and Internet/New Media. His experience in the industry helped achieve marketing and sales success for a wide range of global and start-up companies in the consumer, B-B and B-C and Internet categories. Along with a full teaching load, he also oversees the business/advertising sales operations of Spartan Media and is also the Managing Director at DB&H, SJSU’s award-winning on-campus communications agency. He has served on the Academic Senate and the President’s Strategic Planning Board. He has authored numerous academic articles, and managed and implemented corporate branding & positioning initiatives, marcom strategies, integrated media campaigns, promotions and co-marketing programs at the local, national and international levels. He also currently serves as Board Member of the American Advertising Federation, as Governor of District 14 of the AAF, sits on the National Education Executive Committee for Advertising, is a Board Member on numerous Regional and National Collegiate, Advertising Industry and Academic Boards, is President of The Morgan Hill Community Partnership Board and was past Chair of the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce. He has won many national and regional advertising awards for his creativity and strategic thinking.

A lifelong resident of the South Bay, Julie has lived in the Morgan Hill area since she was eight years old. She grew up in the South Valley and attended Encinal Elementary School, Martin Murphy Middle School, and is an alum of Live Oak High School. A competitive swimmer in her youth, she swam for Los Paseos Aquatic Club and for Live Oak High School. She attended West Valley College and subsequently transferred to San Jose State University, where she graduated honors, receiving a B.S. Degree in Advertising, as well as a Minor in Business. She has worked extensively in public relations, event planning, and marketing, beginning her professional career at PRx, a public relations firm in San Jose, and working in the marketing departments at AMO, a medical device company, and Google Inc. For the past nine years, she has worked in marketing at Apple Inc., where she serves as a marketing program manager for the company’s retail division. She and her husband married and moved to Morgan Hill in 2009 and both have been actively involved in the community ever since. In addition to serving on the Leadership Morgan Hill board, Julie is also a graduate of the 2014 Leadership Class and the 2012 Citizens’ Police Academy. She hopes to put her marketing and public relations skills to work on the Leadership board by raising awareness for the exceptional program it offers to our residents as well as helping to shape the community for years to come.

Roger Knopf - Director

Roger Knopf a lifelong resident of Santa Clara County, born and raised in Los Gatos, married Janie Wharton, a High School classmate in 1964 and moved to Morgan Hill the same year. Served in the U.S. Navy Reserve 1963-1969. Two children, David and Carrie, both living in Morgan Hill, five grandchildren all in local public schools. Farmed tree crops in the early years, started a General Building Construction company in 1970, building many projects locally over the next 35 years.

Active in local and regional community service:

MHUSD: served on its Personnel Commission for 18 years; chaired two successful Bond Election campaigns (the last, built Barrett Elementary and Sobrato H.S.)

Santa Clara County: served on Advisory Committee for Channelization of Llagas Creek (566 projects); served on several ad hoc planning committees for the Planning Department; served on the General Plan Update committee 93-96.

City of Morgan Hill: served on and chaired the Architectural Review Board for six years; served on the ad hoc committee that developed and wrote the city's present Ethics Policy: serve on and chair the Corporation Yard Commission, 1990-present.

Community Service: served on Board of Directors M.H. Chamber of Commerce; served on the Centennial Committee; serve on Property management committee for M.H. Historical Society; 34 year member and Past President of Rotary Club of M.H.; founding director of M.H. Community Law Enforcement Foundation; founding director Community Foundation of Morgan Hill; Citizen of The Year 1989; received Leadership Morgan Hill's first Leadership Excellence Award in 2003, presently serves on the board of Leadership Morgan Hill, served as president for two years.

Corporate Board Service: founding director of South Valley National bank 1983-1996; director Pacific Capital Bancorp 1996-2012, serving on Audit Committee, Governance and Nominating Committee and Vice-Chairman of the Board.

Hospital Board service: South Valley Hospital, Health Dimensions/Good Samaritan Health System 1986-1998, San Jose Hospital/Regional Medical Center of San Jose, serving as Chairman of Board of Trustees 1998-present

Leadership Morgan Hill Director - Cinda Meister  

Cinda L. Meister - Director                                            

Raised in rural Michigan on a farm and Graduated from Michigan State University with degrees in Social Work and Psychology before coming to California via Colorado.

After working in the resort restaurant business in Colorado for many years, Cinda and her husband, Brad, whose family lived in Morgan Hill in the early 1900s, moved to here to open a restaurant called Mushrooms Grille & Bar. They soon fell in love with the Community and have been actively involved ever since! After leaving the restaurant business they opened BookSmart, a gift shop, the Good Life Café and a toy store all in Morgan Hill. BookSmart, operating for over 22 years, moved last year to its new home. Cinda has been a Morgan Hillian for over 25 years and is involved in many ways in the community. Over the years Cinda has been involved with many diverse organizations in MH including the Morgan Hill Downtown Association, The Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce, the Historical Society, the Freedom Fest, Charter School of Morgan Hill and more.

Because of her passion for the MH community, Cinda has helped create a new non-profit organization called BookSmart Community Advantage, whose mission is to foster literacy and community through reading, writing, art and educational programs. Cinda is a 2016 graduate of Leadership Morgan Hill and is looking forward to her continued involvement with the program and the community.

Rex Poria - Director  

Raksha (Rex) Poria - Director

Raksha is a 17 year resident of Morgan Hill having relocated from Salinas with her husband and two children. Both children went through the Morgan Hill schools system. The beautiful landscape captured her heart and the city’s close-knit community gave her a platform to become active in volunteering.  Raksha has a law degree from the University of Bombay and now works as a Paralegal specializing in Estate Planning. Prior to this, she worked as an Operational Lead contractor at NASA and as a Paralegal for the Santa Clara County previous to that. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling both domestically and internationally with over 35 international trips. She is also an avid gardener, loves playing Scrabble, and going to the beach.

Raksha is a recent graduate of Leadership Morgan Hill Class of 2015 and looks forward to continuing her association with the community through volunteer work.

Cricket Rubino - Director  

Cricket Rubino - Director

Cricket Rubino held the position of Coordinator for Leadership Morgan Hill from 2000 until retirement in 2013. She was a graduate of the Leadership Class of 1999.

Being an active member of the community started with her position with Live Oak Emerald Regime Band and Color Guard where she served as Assistant Director to her husband Michael for 27 years. During this phase, she was also a judge for musical/marching/pageantry units in a variety of settings with several judging associations.

She opened Claremont Executive Services (her home-based business) in 1995. She provided professional resume writing and administrative outsourcing. Recently retired, she is now continuing her involvement with the community – unobstructed!

For her community and volunteer efforts, Cricket was cited with the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce 1997 Golden Mushroom Award, the YMCA’s 2003 Volunteer of the Year Award,  Silicon Valley Philanthropy Day Award 2005, Gavilan College Spirit Award 2011 and Morgan Hill Woman of the Year 2013. She is currently serving on the Board of Managers for the Mt. Madonna YMCA, and a founding member and Funding Chair of the Friends of the Morgan Hill Senior Center.

Cricket is very excited to continue her commitment to Leadership Morgan Hill via a position on the Board of Directors. She states, “This program promotes and sustains a healthy community by infusing it with passionate graduates ready to take their place to make a difference.”  

 Alex Vo  

Alex Vo - Director

 Alex was raised in the Bay Area and moved to Morgan Hill in 2016 with his wife Amber. After graduating with a degree in Film from Full Sail University in 2010, he started a video production company specializing in short form documentaries focussed on strengthening his client’s company culture, positioning and branding. From working with fortune 500 companies to non-profit organizations, he has found his passion of creative storytelling using captured reality and visuals inspired by traditional cinema. He hopes to use his talents to assist the many great organizations in our community by providing a voice through media and entertainment and currently assisting The Learning and Loving Center and The Morgan Hill Historical Society. He is a graduate from the Leadership Class of 2018 and hopes to further assist in engaging other to be leaders in our community.

Theresa Kiernan  

Our Program Facilitator

Theresa Kiernan - Program Director 

Theresa Kiernan is a motivational speaker who enjoys empowering others to embark on their personal journey to find and express their voice in all areas of their life.  She likes having fun and creating a safe environment where people can let their guard down, shedding the “should, have to, and must,” to refocus their energy on their true-life passions.Theresa is a charismatic, skilled communicator, with a high level of energy and enthusiasm, and is experienced in the delivery of stand-up presentation material.  She speaks of relevant and interesting content through entertaining delivery and polished presentation skills.She is a Certified Trainer for Infinite Possibilities, a program that explores and defines the inspirational concept “Thoughts become Things,” and she is well versed in leadership, communication, and presentation skills with over 20 years of corporate training experience.Theresa is a very active member of her community with numerous leadership roles in various nonprofit organizations.  She enjoys her passion for community service as a long time member of the Rotary Club of Morgan Hill and serving as Chair of the Leadership Development Committee as well as currently active on the Board of the Mt. Madonna Y, member of the Community Solutions Gala Committee, Chair for the Visioning Committee for Rotary District 5170 to name a few.  She lives in Morgan Hill with her husband Bill and 2 grown children.  

Robin Shepherd  

Robin Shepherd - Program Administrator

As Program Administrator for Leadership Morgan Hill, Robin Shepherd is involved in many aspects of the organization, working closely with the board of directors, the program facilitator, class members, and alumni. After college, Robin moved from the East coast to the Bay Area. She joined the news team at KSFO Radio, worked for a San Francisco private investigator, and managed retail stores for the Gap before launching a high tech marketing career in Silicon Valley. Robin raised her kids in Los Gatos and after they went off to college, she settled down in Morgan Hill. A long-time freelance journalist, Robin serves as Associate Editor, Senior Writer and Blogger for GMH Today Magazine (and gmhtoday.com). She is also a screen writer and film producer with several documentary projects in various stages of development. Robin volunteers with Community Solutions and the Morgan Hill Chamber of Commerce, is a member of AAUW, and serves as Marketing Chair for the 2018 Poppy Jasper International Film Festival.
